Description
Portrait of Joe Clark and Frank Clark outside the bootmaker's shop where they worked at 475 Malvern Road, Hawksburn, Victoria. In June 1915, 2125 Private Joseph Clark embarked with the 6th Reinforcements, 7th Battalion. An 18 year old bootmaker at the time of his enlistment, he arrived on Gallipoli in early August and, within a week, received a bomb wound. He was invalided back to Australia and discharged in August 1916. The sign in the window "Late of 7th Batt" indicating he had served with the 7th Battalion was to stop the white feathers he had been receiving from those who believed he was able bodied enough to enlist.
