Description

Heavy duty grey cotton drill Royal Australian Navy working overalls with reflective strips on the arms and Velcro fastenings at the collar, wrists and ankles. The overalls are fastened down the front by a series of press studs. The two patch breast pockets are both fastened with metal press studs. A pen pocket is located on the upper left hand sleeve. A grey cotton tape sewn above the right breast pocket is machine embroidered in black cotton with the name 'HATCHER' and over the left breast pocket is another black machine embroidered grey tape with 'NAVY'. The pair of grey rank slides are embroidered with the rank insignia for a commander. There is a patch pocket on both the left and right thigh with both flaps being secured by two press studs. There are two slash pockets at the hips and a rear patch pocket on the right. The manufacturers details are clear and indicates that the object was manufactured in 2005 by Tuff Workwear and is a size 97R.

History / Summary

Grey overalls worn by Commander Jamie C F Hatcher, Commanding Officer of HMAS Toowoomba during Operation Catalyst. Commander Hatcher joined the RAN in January 1986, graduating from the Australian Defence Force Academy with a Bachelors degree in Science (University of New South Wales) in 1988. He served in a variety of RAN ships, including HMA Ships Cessnock, Torrens and Swan, Success, Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne. Hatcher was promoted to commander on 1 January 2003. He assumed command of HMAS Toowoomba on 25 April 2006. HMAS Toowoomba is an ANZAC Class Guided Missile Frigate of MEKO 200 design. It was built by Tenix Defence Systems. It is the second ship to bear the name 'Toowoomba' in the Royal Australian Navy. Commander Hatcher has served ashore in various postings.
