Description
Studio portrait of NX69960 Gunner (Gnr) William Harper Walker of Raymond Terrace, NSW. He served with the 16th Light Horse Regiment (Hunter River Lancers) before the war. Walker enlisted in the second AIF in March 1941 and served in the Middle East and in the Pacific Campaigns with the 2/6th Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery. He died of illness on 13 November 1942, age 35. His younger brother NX24503 Allan Douglas Walker served in the 2/13th Battalion and was killed at Tobruk. Note he is wearing the ribbon of the Efficiency Medal on his left breast pocket, presumably for service with the 16th Light Horse Regiment before the war.
