Group portrait of thirty two men in Boer War era uniforms. None of the soldiers are wearing service medals indicating that this is most likely just before the Boer War, likely set in a training camp (faint outline of a tent is visible behind the troops that recurrs in other training ground portraits). The men are all wearing forage caps, have their swords on display and some are holding swagger sticks. Two men have dark coloured sashes across their chests. Identified is Charles Gehrmann fourth from the left in front row.
