Studio portrait of 2996 (later 2996A) Private (Pte) Albert Wright, 31st Battalion. A native of Surrey, England, Pte Wright emigrated to Australia at the age of 14 and worked as a farm labourer at Wellington, NSW, prior to enlistment. He embarked with the 6th Reinforcements from Sydney aboard HMAT Ceramic on 14 April 1916. While serving in France, Pte Wright was killed in action on 23 February 1917, aged 21. He has no known grave, and his name is commemorated on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial, France.
