Studio portrait of VX52829 Lieutenant (Lt) George Edward Pearce, 2/14 Battalion. Born in Peebles, Scotland, Lt Pearce enlisted in April 1941. He was awarded the Military Cross (MC) for showing "great skill, courage and ability" on 28 August 1942, during the battle of Isurava, on the Kokoda Trail. Lt Pearce's MC was awarded posthumously; he died of wounds in Papua on 6 December 1942.
