Portrait of 1878A Private (Pte) Percival James Atkinson, 26th Battalion. A grocer from the Brisbane suburb of Bowen Hills, Qld, Pte Atkinson enlisted with the AIF in June 1915 and on 16 August 1915 left Brisbane for overseas service on HMAT Kyarra with 3rd Reinforcements. Pte Atkinson was killed in action near Peronne, France, on 2 September 1918; he was 22 years old. Although wearing corporal's stripes, this is not noted on his file. he also has a signaller's qualification badge.
