Studio portrait of SX11028 Major (Maj) Gilbert Edgar Jose, 2/10 Australian General Hospital, Australian Army Medical Corps (AAMC). Born in Taichow, China, Jose worked as a medical practitioner in Australia prior to enlisting on 13 October 1940. Maj Jose died while a prisoner of the Japanese at Changi, Singapore, on 27 March 1942, aged 45. The Changi Death Book recorded his death as the 13th in the camp. His older brother, Lieutenant Wilfrid Oswald Jose, was killed in action during the First World War.
