Description

Group portrait of officers of A Company, 6th Battalion. Identified, left to right, back row: Lieutenant (Lt) Roland Macdonald Young, killed at the landing on Gallipoli on 25 April 1915; Lt Joseph Garnet Dangerfield, killed in action 8 May 1915; 2nd Lt Isaac Althorp Ridgway, died at sea on 12 May 1915 of wounds received on Gallipoli; Lt Joseph Rupert Balfe, killed at the landing on Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. Front row: Lt Thomas Faulkner Borwick (later Temporary Lt Colonel, DSO, French Croix de Guerre); Captain John William Hamilton, patent examiner of East Malvern, Victoria, killed in action 25 April 1915. Borwick, formerly a mechanical engineering student at Melbourne University, was later discharged in England in 1919 in order to take up a position at Vickers Ltd; he was knighted in 1946.
