Description

Studio portrait of 1202 Private (Pte) John William Inman, 11th Battalion, in civilian dress following surgery after enlistment. A native of Fremantle, WA, Pte Inman embarked with the 1st Reinforcements from Melbourne aboard HMAT Themistocles on 22 December 1914. He took part in the landing at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915, and was reported wounded and missing the same day. Following an investigation by a Board of Enquiry held at Fletre, France in April 1916, Pte Inman was officially pronounced killed in action on 25 April 1915, aged 25. He has no known grave, and his name is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli.
