Hand-coloured studio portrait of 18110 Able Seaman (AB) William Frederick Cecil (Bill) Norton, HMAS Sydney, of Sydney, NSW. AB Norton enlisted on 10 February 1927. He joined the crew of HMAS Sydney on 13 July 1937. On 20 November 1941 he was killed in action, when the Sydney was sunk off the coast of Western Australia by the German raider Kormoran, with the loss of all crew. He was 33 years old. His older brother, 18171 John Thomas Henry (Jack) Norton also enlisted in February 1927 and was also lost with the Sydney.
