Informal portrait of 17515 Warrant Engineer Alexander Bailie Biggs of Stanmore, NSW, with his wife Alice. Biggs was a career sailor who enlisted in the RAN on 28 April 1926 and rose through the ranks to be promoted to Warrant Engineer on 10 October 1938. He was posted to HMAS Sydney II in August 1939 and was one of the 645 members of the crew killed on 20 November 1941 when the Sydney was sunk by the German auxiliary cruiser Kormoran off the West Australian coast.
