Studio portrait of 2782 Corporal (Cpl) Claude Greybrook Schwonberg, 17th Battalion, of Maclean, NSW. A purser with a steamship company prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 6th Reinforcements from Sydney aboard HMAT Euripides on 2 November 1915. On 9 October 1917, Cpl Schwonberg was killed in action at Poelcappelle, Belgium, aged 29. He has no known grave, and his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
