Studio portrait of NX34780 Captain John Louis Edgley, 2/18 Battalion, of Fairfield, NSW. Prior to enlistment on 21 June, 1940, Captain Edgley worked as a solicitor. He was killed in action on 27 January, 1942, in Malaya; he was aged 29 years. His father Major J M Edgley served in the First World war and was awarded a DSO. His brother in law, NX12481 Lieutenant Albert Allan Herron, 2/1 Battalion, was killed in action in Crete on 31 May 1941.
