185485 Lance Corporal (LCpl) Shannon McAliney, 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR) assisting a Somali woman at a food distribution centre in the Bay Region of southern Somalia during Operation Solace. Operation Solace was the Australian Defence Force's primary contribution for 1993 to humanitarian efforts in Somalia as part of the United Nations' Unified Task Force (UNITAF). LCpl McAliney was accidentally killed in Somalia while on patrol with D Company 1RAR on 2 April 1993.
