The incident occurred during a 1st Infantry Brigade Group excercise in which over 4000 Regular Army troops were engaged. The Brigade was in the field for four days practising in most rugged conditions, advance, attack and withdrawal. Operating the drill is Sapper 'Scotty' Miller, of Mentone, Vic). Behind him is Sapper John Bower, of Narrabeen, NSW, and left is Sapper David Peterson, of Merrylands, NSW, all of the 7th Independent Squadron of the Royal Australian Engineers (RAE).
