Portrait of brothers NX57176 Frederick Lewis Fortier (left) and QX10058 Alan David Fortier (right), both 2/12 Field Ambulance and both of Cronulla, NSW. Frederick Fortier enlisted at Paddington, NSW, on 11 July 1940 and Alan Fortier enlisted at Toowoomba, Qld, on 15 June 1940. The brothers served on the hospital ship Centaur and were both killed on 14 May 1943 when Centaur was torpedoed and sunk by the Japanese submarine I-177.
