The crew of HMAS Sydney II enjoy a luncheon in Sydney Town Hall after the ceremonial welcome home march through George Street. The ship had returned from service in the Mediterranean. Identified is 23464 Able Seaman (AB) Martin Curtis James, of Newcastle, NSW, front table second from right, left side of table, second from table end. On 19 November 1941 the Sydney was sunk in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Western Australia by the German auxiliary cruiser Kormoran. All 645 crew members aboard HMAS Sydney were lost.
