Studio portrait of 1737 Private (Pte) James Morrissey, 39th Battalion, of Sebastopol, Vic. Pte Morrissey was a teamster before enlisting on 1 March 1916. He embarked with A Company on HMAT Ascanius on 27 May 1916. On 15 September 1916 he was transferred to 8th Battalion, and on 31 October 1916 he was transferred to 46th Battalion. He was killed in action at Zonnebeke Ridge on 1 October 1917 at the age of 22.
