Studio portrait of 730A Private (Pte) Robert (Blue) Leslie Hall, 31st Battalion, of Hughenden, Qld. Pte Hall had tried to enlist but was rejected on the grounds of defective eyesight. He successfully enlisted in Febaruary 1917, and left Australia for service on the Western Front with the 13th Reinforcements for the 14th Machine Gun Company in June 1917. After transferring to the 31st Battalion in September 1917, Pte Hall was severely wounded on 19 May 1918 whilst in the Corbie sector, and was taken to the 5th Australian Field Ambulance. He succumbed to his wounds two days later, age 18.
