Informal portrait, taken prior to enlistment, of NX104185 Gunner (Gnr) Arthur John Sing, 2 Mountain Battery, Royal Australian Artillery, of Surry Hills, NSW, walking with a friend. Gnr Sing, whose father had come to Australia from China, was a market worker before he enlisted on 7 August 1942, in Sydney. He was killed in action on 31 March 1944 in New Guinea, at the age of 31.
