Studio portrait of 6839 Sapper (Spr) Victor Arthur Alfred Tucker, 1st Division Signal Company Engineers, of Crystal Brook, SA. Employed as a clerk before enlisting in May 1916, Spr Tucker left Australia with the 22nd Reinforcements of the 10th Battalion in November 1916 for service on the Western Front. Transferred to the 1st Division Signal Company Engineers in September 1917, he was gassed at Herleville Wood on 25 August 1918 and transferred to the 5th General Hospital at Rouen. Spr Tucker died of gas poisoning on 8 September 1918, age 22.
