Studio portrait of 6079 Private (Pte) John Ernest Patterson, 3rd Battalion, of Oxley, Vic. Pte Patterson was a blacksmith before enlisting on 7 February 1916. He embarked on 22 August 1916 from Sydney with the 19th Reinforcements on HMAT Wiltshire. He died of wounds on 7 May 1917 in France, at the age of 31.
