Studio portrait of 2336 Private (Pte) Charles Leslie Harding McAdam, 39th Battalion. A stationer from Hawthorn, Victoria, Pte McAdam served for three years as a senior cadet in the 48th Battalion, Surry Hills, and two years in the Citizens Military Forces (CMF) before enlisting on 18 February 1916. Eyewitness accounts from his Australian Red Cross Wounded and Missing File state "He took part in the stunt on Octr 4th ...he was light in build with very pleasant features and a lovely disposition". Pte McAdam was killed instantly by bullet wound to the chest at the attack on Broodseinde on 4 October 1917.
