Description
A pre-war studio portrait of 2561 Private (Pte) George Henry Farmer, 43rd Battalion, of Bullfinch, WA. A millman before enlisting in August 1916 left Australia for service on the Western Front with the 5th Reinforcements in November 1916. Pte Farmer was killed by a German sniper during the 43rd Battalion's attack on a German strongpoint at Warneton, near Messines, on 31 July 1917, age 33. He was buried alongside three other men who were killed by the same sniper, however the grave was unmarked, and its location was subsequently lost.
