Studio portrait of 1172 Private (Pte) (Shoeing Smith) John James Irwin Harrison, 10th Light Horse Regiment, of Big Brook, WA. A farrier, Pte Harrison enlisted on 22 June 1915 and as a member of the 5th Reinforcements, he embarked from Fremantle, WA, aboard HMAT Anchises (A68) on 2 September 1915. He served in Palestine where he died of sickness on 15 August 1916. Pte Harrison is wearing the Queen's South Africa Medal with three clasps, indicating that he served in South Africa during the Boer War (1899-1901).
