Studio portrait of 3278 Private (Pte) Archie Hillam Murray, 52nd Battalion, of Fullarton Estate, SA. A labourer before enlisting in August 1915, Pte Murray left Australia for Egypt with the 12th Battalion in October 1915. Transfering to the 52nd Battalion as part of the 'doubling-up' of the AIF in March 1916, Pte Murray was sent to France three months later. Pte Murray was hospitalised with appendicitis in August 1916, and was evacuated to Tidworth Hospital in England, but by September 1917 was found unfit fo active service with ventral hernia and was repatriated to Australia for home service. Discharged from the AIF in June 1918, Pte Murray died 14 June 1920, aged 26.
