Informal portrait, taken prior to enlistment, of Thomas William Cork of Sydney, NSW, who served as 1006 Driver (Dvr) William Cork, 2nd Battalion. A shearer before enlisting on 19 September 1914, Dvr Cork embarked from Sydney on HMAT Port Macquarie on 21 December 1914 with the 2nd Light Horse Brigade Train, 6th Company Army Service Corps. On 25th September 1917, he was taken on strength of the 2nd Battalion. He was killed in action in Belgium, at the age of 25, on 4 October 1917, the day after his brother 3730 Private Arthur Ernest Cork, who served in the same battalion, was killed.
