Studio portrait of 422749 Flying Officer (FO) Frederick Owen Williams, of Rockdale, NSW. Enlisting in the RAAF in May 1942, FO Williams trained as a pilot and flew Beaufighters with 455 Squadron RAAF at Langham, Norfolk. FO Williams was killed during a reconnaissance sortie the Dutch coast north of Terschelling on 8 June 1944 when his Beaufighter NE200 (radio call-sign UB-A) experienced engine trouble and crashed into the North Sea. He was aged 22.
