Description
Studio portrait of 962 Private (Pte) James Wesley Hutchinson, 32nd Battalion, of North Fremantle, WA. A farmer before enlisting in July 1915, Pte Hutchinson left Australia for Egypt in November 1915. He spent less than a month in France before being killed during the attack on the German positions at Fromelles on the night of 19/20 July 1916, aged 21, and has no known grave. According to the Roll of Honour circular filled out by his father, Pte Hutchinson "desired to enlist as soon as War was declared bit I thought he was too young but allowed him to go when 19 years (owing to him being our only son)".
