Informal portrait of NX31802 Private (Pte) Edwin William Cafe of Coonamble, NSW. A tractor driver before enlisting in the Second AIF in June 1940, Pte Cafe served in the Pacific campaign with the 2/33 Battalion. He received severe burns at Jackson's Airfield at Port Moresby, New Guinea, when a fully-loaded Liberator bomber crashed into trucks loaded with members from the 2/33 Battalion on 7 September 1943. He died of his injuries 12 days later, aged 28.
