Studio portrait of 408784 Aircraftman, later Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt) Lloyd Garnet Simpson of Melbourne, Vic. A mail contractor before enlisting in the RAAF in May 1941, FSgt Simpson trained as a Wireless Air Gunner as part of the Empire Air Training Scheme in Canada and was posted to 547 Costal Command Squadron RAF at Davidstow Moor, Cornwall, England. He was killed when his Wellington XI, serial number MP565, was shot down by a German Junkers Ju88 whilst on an anti-submarine sortie over the Bay of Biscay on 15 August 1943, age 28.
