Informal outdoor portrait of NX20318 Private (Pte) Lloyd Arthur Gainey, Australian Army Service Corps (AASC). A labourer prior to enlistement, Pte Gainey put his age down to join the army. He had previously served with his brothers Henry and Athol in the 33rd Battalion during the First World War. Whilst serving in Malaya with 1 Company AASC, Sergeant Gainey became a prisoner of war of the Japanese, and died in Burma (Myanmar) on 8 May 1943, aged around 47 years.
