Warne, Sergeant (Sgt) A. B. Clydsdale, Captain (Capt) W. J. B. Murphy, Sgt L. T. Hurrell, Cpl P. F. Atherton, Tpr K. R. Thompson, Tpr H. Farrelly. Standing, from left: Tpr J. G. McLaughlin, Tpr R. G. Of the eleven men of the group who later enlisted in the Second AIF, two were killed. Sgt Hurrell, later NGX22 Temporary Capt Hurrell, enlisted in January 1940 and served in New Guinea with the 2/31 Battalion. He was killed by a Japanese sniper whilst on patrol along the Ambogi River near Sanananda on 4 December 1942, aged 28. Cpl Warne, later NX59611 Lt Warne, enlisted in July 1940 and served in the Pacific with the 2/33 Battalion. He was killed in action on 14 October 1942 on the Kokoda Trail when his battalion was attacked by Japanese forces at Templeton's Crossing, aged 26.
