Informal portrait of QX14762 Private (Pte) Eric John Shirley, 2/26 Battalion, of Norman Park, Qld. Pte Shirley enlisted in Kelvin Grove, Qld, on 16 July 1940. He was taken Prisoner of War (POW) when the Japanese invaded Malaya. He died of cholera on 22 August 1943 while working on the Burma-Thailand railway and is buried at Thanbyuzayat, Burma.
