Description
Studio portrait of 2859A Private (Pte) Peter Charles Ott, 38th Battalion, of Lancefield, Vic. A fuelman before enlisting in October 1916, Pte Ott left Australia for England with the 6th Reinforcements in December 1916. Arriving in France in August 1917, he spent less than a month with the battalion before he was killed by artillery fire during the 38th Battalion's attack on Broodseinde Ridge on 4 October 1917, aged 28. He was buried nearby, but the location of his grave was lost in later fighting and subsequently he has no known grave.
