History painting: Ziggurat of Ur with soldiers, Tallil, southern Iraq
Description
The Ziggurat of Ur is the earth-coloured, ancient, and manmade structure visible behind the freight containers and three Australian Light Armoured Vehicles (ASLAVs). In a 2008 interview Charles Green explained:
"As we took our photographs, and as we thought about paintings, the ziggurat appears, reappears, reappears. It's this punctuation mark that pushes you back into history."
