Studio portrait of 2259 Private (Pte) William Waterson Stevens, 51st Battalion AIF. A horsedriver by trade, Pte Stevens was born at Peebles, Scotland. In March 1916, three years after arriving in Australia, he enlisted in the AIF at Perth WA. Pte Stevens was killed in action in France on 2 April 1917. Age 33 when he died, Pte Sevens left a wife and four children. In his personal effects the AIF returned to his family were a sprig of heather and a lock of hair.
