Description
Portrait of WX13661 Private (Pte) Albin Conrad Solin, Headquarters 3 Australian Corps , of Mt Lawley, WA, (left) and his cousin Petty Officer (PO) Lyttleton Anton Wilhelm Solin RAN, also of Western Australia (right). Pte Solin served as a Driver with the 3rd Divisional Ammunition Column during the First World War, where he saw service on the Western Front. On 28 May 1941Pte Solin enlisted with the 2nd AIF and died of illness in Western Australia on 15 July 1942. PO Solin enlisted on 7 September 1939 and was discharged on 24 March 1944. Their family was originally named Eskilson when they migrated from Sweden in 1867 but changed their name to Solin, presumeably because it was easier to pronounce in English than Eskilson.
