Studio portrait of 413534 Flying Officer (FO) Francis Herbert Cridland. Enlisting in the RAAF in September 1941, FO Cridland trained as a pilot and flew Beaufighters with 31 Squadron, RAAF, based in the Northern Terrirory. He was killed on 19 October 1943 when his Beaufighter, serial number A19-17, crashed into the ocean whilst returning from an operational sortie over Trangan Aru Island, aged 23.
