Studio portrait of 421382 Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt) Arthur Barton Pearson, RAAF, 83 Squadron RAF, of Chatswood, NSW. He wears a brevet indicating that he is an Air Gunner. Flt Sgt Pearson was a clerk before enlisting in Sydney on 1 February 1942. He was lost on operations in the early morning of 2 January 1944. He was a member of the crew of a Lancaster Mk III bomber, ND354, a Pathfinder for a 421-bomber raid on Berlin. The aircraft was shot down and crashed at Lutten, near Vechta, Germany, killing seven members of the crew, including Flt Sgt Pearson. He was 23 years old.
