Hand coloured studio portrait of 7010 Private (Pte) Frederick Alfred Warren Hastings, a contractor of Perth, WA, formerly of Adelaide, who enlisted in Perth on 2 October 1916. Pte Hastings embarked for England at Albany, WA, on HMAT Port Melbourne (A16) on 23 July 1917. After training in the 7th Training Battalion at Rollestone he proceeded to France with the 21st Reinforcements to the 28 Battalion. Pte Hastings was killed in action on 10 June 1918 during the attack on Morlancourt, near Albert, France, and was buried in the field. His body was later exhumed and re-interred in the Beacon Cemetery at Sailly-Laurette about a mile south west of Morlancourt. This photograpjh was taken during one of two periods, in December 1916 or between 25 April 1917 and September 1917, when Pte Hastings was an acting Corporal at the 22nd Depot in Perth.
