Studio portrait of 7259 Private (Pte) Charles Henry Knight, 16th Battalion, of Korrelocking, WA; formerly of Hailsham, Sussex, England. Prior to enlisting in September 1916, Pte Knight was employed as a storekeeper and agent. He left Australia for France with the 24th Reinforcements aboard HMAT Militiades (A28) on 29 January 1917. He underwent further training in England and was Acting Lance Corporal to the 4th Training Battalion from June until August 1917. On 14 August 1917 he arrived in France for service on the Western Front. Pte Knight was killed in action at Polygon Wood, near Ypres, Belgium on 27 September 1917. He was 34 years of age. Pte Knight's brother 5094 Rifleman Alfred Knight, Post Office Rifles, London Regiment, British Army was killed in action on 12 December 1917.
