Studio portrait of 10638 Corporal Sidney Frederick Ernest 'Sid' Liebert, 3rd Divisional Signal Company of South Yarra Victoria. An engineer with the postal service prior to enlistment, Cpl Liebert also had one years service in the 49th Battalion, Citizens Military Forces (CMF) before enlisting as a Sapper on 21 January 1916. He was promoted to Corporal in France on 29 July 1917 and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in January 1918. On 4 December 1918 he was transferred to the Australian War Records Section in London. In early 1919 he was granted leave to study Telephone Engineering in London. He returned to Australia in August 1919.
