Studio portrait of 2175 Private (Pte) Vincent James Martin Longhurst, 55th Battalion, of Pambula, NSW. He is wearing the uniform of the 11th Light Horse Regiment, in which he served prior to enlisting in the AIF in January 1916. Pte Longhurst worked as a farmer in Pambula, NSW and embarked with the 4th Reinforcements on board HMAT Port Sydney (A15) on 4 September 1916. He was promoted to Lance Corporal (L Cpl) in February 1917. L Cpl Longhurst died on 18 May 1917 due to wounds received in action at Bullecourt, France. He was 22 years of age.
