Studio portrait of 4372 Private (Pte) Raymond John Sutcliffe, 2nd Battalion, of Waverley, NSW. An electrical switchboard attendant prior to enlistment in September 1915, Pte Sutcliffe embarked from Sydney with the 13th Reinforcements aboard HMAT Aeneas (A60) on 30 December 1915. He was killed in action in the Battle of Passchendaele (or Third Battle of Ypres ) in Belgium on 8 November 1917 and has no known grave. He is memorialised at the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
