Studio portrait of 688 Private James Alexander Raleigh, C Company, 42nd Battalion. A labourer of Kilcoy, Qld, prior to enlistment, he embarked from Sydney on HMAT Borda (A30) on 5 June 1916. Later promoted to corporal, he was killed in action on 1 August 1917. He has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial Belgium.
