Description
Studio portrait of R/30895 Noel Balfour Dight Walker, 1st Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps (KRCC), British Army. He was born in Sydney, NSW, and was the son of a Presbyterian minister, John Walker of Bendigo, Vic., who enlisted as a chaplain in the AIF; Noel Walker's four brothers and a sister also enlisted with British and Australian forces, and three brothers were killed in action. On the outbreak of the First World War, he was working in Fiji for a sugar company; he joined the Fiji Reinforcments and proceeded to England, where he joined the KRCC on 18 July 1916. He died on 14 November 1916 at Beaumont-Hamel. He was 24 years old.
