Studio portrait of Second Lieutenant (later Major) Alison Goodlet Dight Walker, 6th Light Horse. Born in Germanton (later Holbrook), NSW, he was the son of a Presbyterian minister, John Walker of Bendigo, Vic., who enlisted as a chaplain in the AIF. A sister and four brothers also enlisted in British and Australian forces; three of his brothers were killed in action. Alison Walker was a station manager before enlisting on 10 December 1914. He embarked on 20 December 1914. He was awarded the Military Cross in the New Year Honours List, 1919, at which time he was a Temporary Captain and Deputy Assistant Quartermaster General of the Australian and New Zealand Mounted Division. He returned to Australia on 12 November 1919.
