Studio portrait of Second Lieutenant (2 Lt) Hilton Maxwell Dight Walker, Royal Flying Corps. A chemist before enlisting in the AIF on 6 September 1915, he embarked from Melbourne on HMAT Ceramic on 23 November 1915 with the 2nd Casualty Clearing Station as a Corporal, with the service number 7318. On 1 September 1916 he was appointed to a commission in the Royal Flying Corps. He was the son of a Presbyterian minister, John Walker of Bendigo, Vic., who enlisted as a chaplain in the AIF. A sister and four brothers also enlisted in British and Australian forces; three of his brothers were killed in action.
